The Photographer

Beauty Buthelezi is a portrait and travel photographer based in Cape Town, South Africa.

Originally from Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal, her creative path began in fashion design, where I learned to work with form, detail and emotion. But it was behind the lens that she discovered her truest medium. What started as a personal exploration while working in the corporate retail world soon became a calling. After leaving her retail buying job to travel through Southeast Asia, photography became more than a passion, it became a purpose.

Her work is deeply human. She photographs not just what she sees but what she feels, moments of connection, dignity, joy, sadness and stillness that speak across language and culture. Whether it’s a portrait filled with quiet strength or a travel image that invites you into another world, each photograph is an invitation to slow down and notice.

Her portfolio offers a narrative of presence and shared humanity. it offers warmth, relatability and moments that feel personal because they are. Her lens is guided by empathy and curiosity. She aims to create work that resonates, not only as art to observe but as stories to feel.

Every image is a window, a reminder of how beautifully connected we all are.

The Company

Siphuma and Co was born from my love for people and travelling. I have always been drawn by the discovery of something different. So I decided to start Siphuma and Co to share that beauty and that discovery. It is that beauty that makes us humans and what connects us. That is what Siphuma and Co is all about. It is the understanding that even though everything on the outside says we are different, something on the inside proves our shared humanity. That is what I aim to capture, the true essence of the person and their surroundings. A mirror back to the truth of who a person is.

Siphuma and Co is about bringing people closer together and being inspired by one another. It’s more than just photography. It is about the connection that binds us. I have chosen to relay that through photography.

Beauty is exceptionally professional in her work. Before the scheduled shoot, she took the time to truly understand me and ensure she had an accurate grasp of the brief. We even had multiple pre-production meetings to align on the vision .

During the shoot, she created a comfortable environment where I felt completely at ease. I believe the quality of the images I received is the best I’ve ever had, largely because of the effort she put into understanding me and making me feel confident throughout the process. The images reflected the effort put in as it captured my emotion and my story as I wanted in that period of my life.

The photos exceeded all my expectations. Beauty has an incredible eye for spotting the perfect locations, and our creative brainstorming session was invaluable as it helped us unpack and seamlessly blend our visions into something truly special.

I’m more of a social media poser than a professional one, there’s definitely a difference. I usually stick to one pose that works for me, so this experience pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way. The photographer had clearly taken the time to study my natural style and introduced poses I’d never considered, elevating them with thoughtful direction. I genuinely enjoyed taking her lead, it felt natural, collaborative, and completely aligned with the way I love to work.
